One of my favorite activities at camp is canoeing. I love spending quiet afternoons paddling around the lake, greeting the wildlife along the shore, chatting with my buddy, and just listening to the water. As much as I love canoeing on my own, leading girls to this experience is more powerful. As a girl, I earned Paddle, Pole, and Roll. As an adult, I taught sessions around this Interest Project as well as the Junior Small Craft badge. Now, the new set of outdoor badges includes a Senior Paddling badge and I, for one, cannot wait to work on it.
At this year’s Lakamaga Conference, you too can enjoy this amazing activity along with instruction from one of the best around. Join Pam for Session D & E for some quality time out on the water. The class is geared for those new to canoeing in Girl Scouts where you’ll learn the right safety equipment, basic strokes, and of course – practice time on Big Marine Lake.
Our paddles keen and bright,
Flashing like silver;
Swift as the wild goose flight,
Dip, dip, and swing.
